Maladaptive Daydreaming: How Do Seek Validation as An Excessive Daydreamer?
Today, I’ll be addressing the question of how to seek validation as a maladaptive daydreamer. Finding that sense of belonging can be a challenge, especially when your family doesn’t understand what you’re going through. In many stories I’ve heard, it’s common for those around maladaptive daydreamers not to grasp their experiences.
This can lead to feelings of isolation and withdrawal from social situations, accompanied by a sense of embarrassment due to the inability to explain what they’re going through. So, how can you seek validation and find a sense of belonging?
Firstly, it’s essential to understand that the people around you, even family and friends, may never fully comprehend your experience. They have certain expectations and may not see you as different from their own experiences.
Therefore, it’s crucial to realize that you don’t need their understanding to find your sense of belonging. It’s important for them to understand, but trying to explain may lead to frustration and feelings of judgment. Instead, consider joining a community of maladaptive daydreamers, such as those on Reddit, Discord, Facebook, or Instagram.
Sharing your story within these communities can provide validation and a sense of belonging without judgment or criticism. Seeking validation from your family isn’t necessary for your healing journey, as healing is a personal endeavor that involves delving into your inner world. Even if your family doesn’t validate you, you can work on processing your emotions, regaining control of your maladaptive daydreaming, and ultimately healing.
