One of the common misconceptions around narcissists is that they can easily and quickly move on from relationships without looking back. They may appear to move on swiftly by immediately entering into another relationship or seeming unaffected by the previous one.

The misconception arises from viewing moving on as a superficial process. It’s important to understand that moving on goes much deeper than simply finding a new partner or avoiding romantic involvements. True moving on entails reaching a profound emotional state where you no longer hold resentment or hatred towards your ex. As I mentioned in my past article, it means that your current life is not defined by the impact of your past relationship.

A narcissist, however, may only be moving forward without truly moving on. They may seek out another relationship to evoke jealousy, triangulate you, or seek revenge for feeling discarded. This type of behavior is moving forward but not moving on, as they carry the same emotional baggage from one relationship to another. They may also return to you whenever they require your support or validation.

Narcissists never fully move on because they use new relationships as a defense mechanism to mask their fear of abandonment. They constantly seek validation and approval from their new sources of supply. Their ability to hoover you back or manipulate you shows that they view you as a pawn in their games to fulfill their insatiable desires. If you continue to chase desires in an attempt to fill the inner emptiness, you are not truly moving on.

Rather than dealing with the emptiness deep inside, you may find yourself escaping or avoiding it. Therefore, don’t feel disheartened when you witness your manipulative ex quickly entering into another relationship. Understand that they are unable to confront or process their emotions, and they rely on a crutch to survive. Their behavior does not define who you are.

In conclusion, a narcissist is always moving forward but never truly moving on. Instead of focusing on why they are moving on so fast, concentrate on why you may be struggling to move forward. Look inward and examine things on a deeper level, and you will realize that not everything is as it appears. You know you have moved on when your past no longer limits your possibilities in your current life. It’s an inner journey that narcissists rarely undertake, as they seldom engage in self-reflection and personal growth. You only move on when you face your conditioning and your wounds, those are things we move on from.
