When we talk about healing and the healing journey, most times we look at it with a negative connotation. But today, I’d like to share with you an amazing aspect of healing as a more positive experience. We all have our strengths and weaknesses, and today I’m going to talk about our strengths. One of our strengths, especially if we’ve been through a horrible experience, is resilience, as well as empathy, understanding, and learning from past mistakes. These are just some of the beautiful qualities most human beings possess. Even if you’ve been through a horrible experience or even if you don’t believe it, these qualities are still there.

What happens is, when you’ve been through a negative experience, you end up just looking at your weaknesses, thinking, “I’ve been in this relationship for 10 years; why couldn’t I see it sooner?” We don’t look at the fact that, “Oh yeah, I’ve now seen it and left the relationship.” That’s something to be proud of. Or the fact that you’ve managed to survive that relationship — many don’t survive, many don’t even live.

When you’re deeply ingrained with negativity, you end up not seeing the positive within you. So healing now is like clearing this negativity so you can see the goodness that is still in you. It’s not about finding something new; all those positive qualities are in you. Deep inside, you are a loving, empathetic, understanding, and compassionate human being, but negative experiences have clouded your judgment. You’ve internalized negativity to the point where you don’t really see any positives, and all the positives in your current life are being negated.

That’s what negative beliefs do — they negate the positive aspects of your life. You might be advancing in your career, having support from your friends, or you might have just been fired a couple of months ago but have a new job now. You might have bought a house. There are just some things happening around you. But because of those deeply ingrained beliefs, or because your lens is still blurred with negative thinking and negative experiences, it will always negate the positive. It won’t see the positive. Healing is clearing this negativity and allowing yourself to see the positive. It can be that simple.

We get used to focusing so much on the negatives in our lives that even the positive will be twisted to seem negative. You might think, “Ah, it’s just that one thing.” But if you write down the positive aspects of your life, even the small things — breathing, being alive, not being sick today, waking up — you’ll realize you have a million positive things, and the negatives are probably just a hundred, not vice versa.

But when you think about it, you might believe the negatives are in the millions and the positives are just one percent. That’s how negative beliefs make you focus on the negative aspects and not the fact that you still have support, you still have eyes to see, you still have positive aspects of your life.

Healing is allowing yourself to see the negatives, process them, and then see the positive aspects of your life. It helps you realize you are not hopeless, powerless, falling apart, or broken. You just veered off the path and have been stuck in a negative pattern for a very long time to the point where you don’t even believe what you see. And that negativity has already determined your perspective. So healing is not about patching things up or just positive thinking, but clearing the negative feelings or clearing the bushes of negative thoughts so that you can see that diamond in the middle, which is always there. Healing doesn’t have to have a negative connotation, you do it to rediscover the beauty within. It doesn’t have to take you to a dark place, it takes you a bright place.

So, you don’t have to dread healing because it’s often associated with ‘negative’ and heavy words like ‘trauma’, ‘broken’, ‘illness’, ‘wounded inner child’, ‘stress’, ‘negative energy’, ‘inner demons’, and more words that may scare you from going deep inside.

If you’re afraid of looking inward, you can see it more as a journey of self-discovery to realize your strengths, explore alternative scenarios, and uncover possibilities. Recognize how your mind is just playing games with you, preventing you from seeing how amazing you truly are. This is not positive thinking; this is you seeing beyond the clutter of negativity. Enjoy your healing; it doesn’t have to be scary.
