Healing Is Possible- Even for Someone Like You
I understand that you may be skeptical about the possibility of healing, especially considering the immense challenges you have faced in your life. It’s natural to wonder if healing is attainable after enduring abuse or being trapped in an abusive relationship for an extended period. Perhaps you’ve come across discouraging messages that suggest you should simply accept your circumstances and merely survive. However, I want to assure you that healing is possible, even for someone with a history like yours.
The past experiences you’ve endured may have left deep scars, distorting your inner beliefs and convincing you that healing is out of reach for someone as “damaged” as you feel. But it’s essential to recognize that these distorted beliefs are a result of the trauma you’ve faced. They don’t define your potential for healing and growth. It’s time to challenge those negative filters and embrace the idea that you are capable of healing and transforming your life.

What you truly need is the willingness and unwavering commitment to embark on the journey of healing, regardless of how daunting it may seem. You don’t have to have all the answers or know precisely how to do it; all you need is to take that first step and show up for yourself. I understand that at this moment, it might be challenging to believe in the possibility of healing, especially when your mind is clouded with negativity and self-doubt. Your mind, in its own way, seeks familiarity and safety, which is why it may resist change and keep you stuck in an unhealed state.
Mind and Familiarity
Our minds are wired to seek familiarity and safety as a way to protect us from potential threats and dangers. Throughout our lives, we develop patterns of thinking, beliefs, and behaviors that become deeply ingrained in our subconscious. These patterns act like well-worn paths in our minds, and they provide a sense of comfort and security because we know what to expect.
When we experience trauma or go through painful experiences, these negative patterns can become even more deeply entrenched. They become our default ways of coping with stress and adversity. However, these patterns may not always serve us well, especially when it comes to healing from past wounds.
Change is Intimidating
The idea of change can be intimidating and threatening to our minds because it represents moving into unknown territory. Even if the current state is painful or unfulfilling, our minds may resist change because it’s unfamiliar, and familiarity is perceived as safer. It’s like staying in a well-worn but uncomfortable pair of shoes because they’re familiar, rather than trying on a new, potentially more comfortable pair.
This resistance to change can manifest in various ways. We might find ourselves making excuses to avoid therapy or self-help activities that can aid in our healing process. We might procrastinate or engage in self-sabotaging behaviors because our minds are trying to maintain the status quo.
Power of That First Step
To break free from this cycle, we need to consciously challenge our existing beliefs and patterns. Recognizing that our minds are seeking safety and familiarity is the first step. Acknowledging that change is uncomfortable but necessary for growth and healing allows us to approach the process with self-compassion and patience.
Healing is a process of deprogramming the negativity that has anchored itself in your mind over time. It’s about releasing the burdens of the past and allowing positive resources and possibilities to enter your life. By showing up for therapy or taking action towards healing, you’ll gradually begin to experience glimpses of what’s possible. It’s about opening your mind to new perspectives and embracing the idea that you deserve a life free from the shackles of past pain.
Embracing change, even when it feels uncomfortable, is the key to breaking free from the limitations of an unhealed state. It allows us to expand our perspectives, explore new possibilities, and ultimately create a healthier and more fulfilling life. While it may be challenging, remember that you possess the strength and resilience to navigate the journey of healing and emerge stronger and wiser on the other side.
