Why You Might Feel Drained Of Energy And Lack Motivation To Take Care Of Yourself After…
Today I’ll be addressing the question of why you might feel drained of energy and lack motivation to take care of yourself after experiencing abuse. Once you leave the relationship, you may find it difficult to even perform basic tasks like brushing your teeth or getting out of bed in the morning, let alone going to work or doing something for yourself. The main reason behind this exhaustion is that you’re carrying a heavy emotional burden from the past relationship. Carrying emotional baggage is draining because it weighs you down with unresolved emotions and painful memories. Instead of channeling your energy into the present moment, it’s consumed by past experiences, abuse, and trauma. These memories and emotions occupy your thoughts and prevent you from fully engaging with the present, leaving you feeling exhausted and drained.
Analogy: Backpack Filled With Rocks
Imagine yourself carrying a heavy backpack filled with rocks. Each rock represents an unresolved emotion or painful memory from your past relationship. As you carry this burden, it weighs you down and drains your energy. You try to move forward, but the weight of the backpack makes every step feel harder. Instead of being able to focus on the path ahead, your attention is consumed by the heaviness of the load on your shoulders. Similarly, the emotional baggage from your past relationship acts like this heavy backpack, preventing you from fully engaging with the present moment and sapping your energy as you try to carry it forward.
Most Situations Are Triggering
Moreover, when you haven’t healed from past wounds, it’s like walking through a field filled with landmines. Every little thing or every single step you take becomes a potential trigger, setting off a chain reaction of thoughts and emotions. You find yourself constantly analyzing every situation, every interaction, looking for signs of danger or pain. This hyper-awareness leaves you feeling on edge, constantly anticipating the next explosion of emotions. This will result in a continuous loop, where even the simplest tasks can trigger intense emotions and drain your energy further. It will leave you exhausted as your days will seems like you’re always on the lookout or working.
Poor Sleep
On top of that, you may find yourself dreading the opportunity to relax and sleep. When you haven’t healed from your trauma, relaxation can become a daunting prospect because it often brings forth flashbacks or nightmares. Instead of finding solace in sleep, you’re faced with the unsettling prospect of reliving painful memories or experiencing intense nightmares, further disrupting your ability to rest and recharge.
Underserving of Taking Care of Yourself
Lastly, you may lack the energy not because you lack the physical capacity to take care of yourself, but rather because you’ve been conditioned and wired to prioritize the needs of others over your own. Taking care of yourself may feel foreign or even undeserving, as you’ve become accustomed to neglecting your own well-being in favor of others’. Consequently, your mind clings to a familiar narrative of lacking the energy to even perform simple tasks like going to the doctor or having regular meals. By doing so, it reinforces the belief that you are undeserving of your own care.
Overcoming this exhaustion isn’t just about physical activities like going to the gym or eating healthily, although those are important. It’s about releasing yourself from the grip of the past and addressing the subconscious beliefs formed as a result of past experiences. In conclusion, healing is similar to removing those heavy rocks from your backpack, allowing you to travel lighter and fill your backpack with valuable components you need.
