Toxic Relationships: How Do You Deal with Long Distance Relationship Abuse?
Today, I’ll be answering the question of how to deal with long-distance relationship verbal and financial abuse. This is not such a common issue because we often think that emotional happens only in short-distance relationships or those where partners live in the same town. However, due to the prevalence of online platforms like Instagram, Tinder, or other dating sites, you might form a connection with someone you’ve never met physically, leading to a long-distance relationship.
As long as there is constant communication, whether it’s imaginary or long-distance, attachment forms. This connection, even if not physically intimate, may lead to financial abuse where the other person asks for money, exploiting the emotional attachment. Eventually, verbal abuse may surface, with hurtful words affecting you.
Dealing with this situation is not easy as you are attached, and it’s challenging to share this with others. Blocking them is a temporary measure, but it may not eliminate the problem entirely, as they can create new accounts or contact you using different numbers. Blocking is a good measure, but fear of betrayal or a lingering need for something from them can complicate matters.
The best way to address this issue is for you to grow personally, to find contentment within yourself, and not rely on the relationship for validation or approval. Blocking is a measure, but true healing involves going deeper within yourself. Whether it’s a long-distance or imaginary relationship, healing is about dealing with loneliness, emptiness, and desperation deep within yourself. By working on feeling good about yourself, believing in your worth, and recognizing that you don’t need another person to validate you, you can overcome the pain of abuse.
Remember, abuse remains abuse, be it financial abuse in a long-distance relationship or with someone you’ve never met physically. However, the most significant harm may arise when you emotionally abuse yourself after leaving such a relationship. Healing involves dealing with the pain, and it starts with you.
