Toxic Relationships: When The abuser Asks for No Contact?
Today, I’ll be addressing the question: Is it possible for an abuser to ask for no contact? This is a very interesting question because, typically, one of the first steps after leaving an abusive relationship is the period where you cut off communication with the abusive ex, blocking them, and so forth. But what if the scenario is reversed, and the abuser suggests not talking for a while?
In situations like this, where moving on from an abusive relationship involves various rules and steps, it’s essential to recognize that each situation is unique. Trying to fit all abusers into one box can lead to confusion and distractions. Instead of focusing on their actions, which may not have a one-size-fits-all explanation, return to yourself.
If the abuser suggests no contact, view it as an opportunity. Understand that it doesn’t necessarily mean they’ll stop contacting you; sometimes, it’s a tactic to gauge your reaction. They might want to see if you feel rejected. Whether it’s them initiating no contact or you wanting no contact, always center your focus on yourself.
Even if you receive explanations for their actions, take responsibility for your pain and negative beliefs stemming from past abusive or neglectful relationships. What mostly happens is most people who have been in abusive relationships often seek answers, read books, or engage in forums about abusers. However, understanding and classifying abusers won’t lead to healing. True healing comes when you turn the focus inward, asking yourself why you feel a certain way and how you can manage those emotions.
In therapeutic processes, the emphasis should not be on self-education regarding narcissism but it should be on exploring the darker corners of your mind. By doing so, you can free yourself and live a life where boundaries and self-fulfillment become natural aspects. Remember, it’s not about what they do; it’s about what you’re doing with your life.
