Today, I’ll be addressing the question of why you still feel sad long after leaving an abusive relationship. You may have left the relationship 7 or 20 years ago, but the sadness persists. You’ve tried various methods such as reading books, practicing meditation, going for counseling, and you’re even making progress in your career and life, yet the sadness lingers.

The main reason for feeling sad even years after the relationship is due to something called stored emotions. When we don’t fully process emotions in the present moment, they get stored in your subconscious mind. You may not process the emotions or cry them out in the moment they’re occurring because the mind perceives that those emotions might be too overwhelming for you to handle. To protect you, the mind suppresses or buries those emotions. Emotions experienced during abusive relationships or life experiences may not have been fully felt or processed, leading to them getting stored in your body and subconscious mind.

These stored emotions, suppressed beneath the surface, can be compared to the dust you’ve not been sweeping under the rug in your house. Your house may appear clean, but it will still be dusty because the underlying issue remains. No matter how much you grow or achieve, the emotions persist until you address and process them.

The sadness you feel on a deeper level is not a result of present actions but stems from emotions left unprocessed in the past. Traumatic experiences might have hindered the development of the capacity to process emotions as they arise, leading to these emotions resurfacing in the future.

If you find yourself feeling sad without apparent reasons, seeking help in a safe environment is crucial. Guided assistance can help uncover and address these underlying issues. The lesson here is to deal with emotions from the past, seeking help if needed, to live a life where past emotions don’t interfere with present ones.

Understanding that the sadness doesn’t originate from current actions but from unprocessed past emotions is key. Seeking help is advisable as it can be challenging to navigate these emotions alone, given their depth beyond your current level of awareness.
