Maladaptive Daydreaming: Why you Feel Guilty after A Long Daydream?
Today, I’ll address the question of why you feel guilty after a long daydreaming episode. This is a common experience for many daydreamers, particularly those who wish to quit daydreaming. The feelings of guilt stem from addiction, as is the case with any form of addiction that you’re trying to overcome. When you can’t stop something that’s negatively impacting your life, you naturally feel guilty because you believe you lack the capacity to control it.
You recognize that daydreaming is hindering your goals, interfering with your real life, and affecting your relationships and various aspects of your life. When something has such a profound impact, you naturally want to stop it. You may even manage to stop for a brief period, but because daydreaming can be compulsive, you find yourself falling back into it. This, in turn, leads to self-doubt and feeling bad about yourself.
You might ask yourself how you could end up in this situation again, and these thoughts make you feel guilty, as if you’re not a good person. You may start to believe that there’s something wrong with you, making you different from others who can daydream without it taking over their lives. This comparison can lead to self-blame and shame.
Feeling guilty and bad after daydreaming is a normal part of the struggle because you’re contending with two aspects of yourself: one that compels you to daydream and another that wants to regain control of your life. The former is often the stronger pattern, but inner work can help you address these subconscious forces and break free from excessive daydreaming.
In conclusion, feeling guilty and bad after a daydreaming episode is a common experience, especially when you find it challenging to stop. It’s part of the journey, and with inner work, you can work on these patterns and find ways to overcome excessive daydreaming. Have a lovely evening, and until next time.
