In this line of work, I’ve noticed that some people wonder if they can just comply with all the manipulator’s demands to make the relationship work. For instance, if your abusive partner tells you to change your appearance, religion, cooking style, or even your entire identity, you might think, “What if I just do everything they say? Will they finally love me, and will the relationship improve?”

You may believe that by sacrificing your boundaries and attempting to please them, the relationship will magically transform. You might consider changing your appearance, becoming a stay-at-home parent, going to therapy, praying, being a better listener, or working on your own issues, hoping that it will satisfy the manipulative person. However, here’s the truth: You cannot truly satisfy a manipulative person.

Manipulative individuals have internal emptiness and deep insecurities that cannot be fulfilled by external factors, no matter how much effort you put into trying to please them. Their insatiable needs will continue to exist, and no matter what you do, they will always find something else to criticize or demand from you. Even if you cook fantastic meals, they will find fault with the seasoning. It’s a never-ending cycle where their satisfaction remains elusive.

Furthermore, when you solely focus on trying to impress a manipulative person, it becomes an unhealthy dynamic devoid of genuine love and care. You are essentially putting on a mask and losing your own values and identity for the sake of someone else. This erosion of your true self ultimately leads to your own deep emptiness and a loss of self-esteem.

Trying to impress a manipulative person is futile because there are limits to what you can do. As you continuously give in to their demands, you will become mentally exhausted and drained. Even if you manage to meet their ever-changing expectations, the relationship will not flourish. It will only leave you depleted, helpless, and powerless, feeling like you’re losing your worth and purpose, while the manipulative person remains perpetually dissatisfied.

Instead of attempting to impress a manipulative person, it’s crucial to focus on finding a way out of the toxic relationship. Lowering your standards and compromising your values only perpetuates a cycle of abuse and diminishes your self-esteem. You deserve better, and you should prioritize your well-being and reclaim your self-worth.

Remember, you cannot impress a manipulative person, and the relationship will not work. Shift your focus towards giving back to yourself, rebuilding your self-esteem, and seeking healthier forms of love and support. Believe in your worthiness of a fulfilling and respectful relationship.
